Although John Lennon was long since passed when I found a love of his music and his message, my 13 year old self was still profoundly moved by both. One of the first cassette tapes I ever bought with my own money at the local music store was the imagine album. I would go for long walks in the rain in my Vancouver island community with my walkman and listen to his message of peace over and over again. Sometimes the song imagine still brings me to tears when I hear it. When I was reminded of the anniversary of his death in this year of 2020, it made me think that the cosmic forces were telling me to paint the message and send it out into the world. In these times when it feels like all of humanity is scared, lonely and isolated and fighting the internal battles that often sometimes spill out onto our neighbors, it felt important to use his face to remind us all to breathe and to love.
