The west coast salmon spawn has long been of deep interest to me as an artist. I grew up on the northern most tip of Vancouver Island and the salmon run was a deep cultural impact to the first peoples of the area as well as the importance to the wildlife that would feed upon the salmon as they struggled to get to their spawning grounds. I would often watch eagles swoop down from their perches to grab whole salmon in their claws as the tired salmon would succumb to those claws and fail to fight any longer. The journey was over and their bodies had expired from exhaustion. I have done other art works exploring this theme as the circle of life is incredibly demonstrated in this narrative.
