Growing up in a rural place had us looking for fun in the summer that would lead us to the river behind the baseball diamond at the end of my street. While painting this I was reflecting on the time when my brother and I went down for a swim and were spooked off by a black bear and in my haste I dropped one of my shoes and it floated down river. I remember my mom being very angry about that shoe given a good pair of shoes had to be ordered from Sears and would take a few weeks to get there. North Island life.
